"I'm
so excited to talk about this retreat. Basically, I've been Catholic all
my life, my mom is a teacher at the Catholic middle school, and I've gone
to church every Sunday. It was almost like everything I did at church
was a habit, and I never thought about it. You go up for Communion, you
say, 'Amen'; you go sit down and thank God. I never thought about it,
and spending a whole day on the retreat just talking about the Eucharist
was just awesome. It just made me in awe, like wow, thanks! And then Sunday
about the cross was like 'Geez, let's talk about this here!' I did like
the whole thing.
I'm a junior, and when I was a freshman
I remember sitting in church and hearing all the people say 'a retreat
is such a good thing, you need to go, it will change your life.' All right
so I want to do this. But then I was like, I'll go next semester, and
then next semester. So now I'm a Junior, and this is after semesters of
not going. Finally I was like why don't I just go? I was probably the
first one to register, I was like it's $45 and I can't take it back, that's
it.
I went, and it was cool, I met people, got
to the room. Basically it was an awesome thing to do and it was like,
I go home now and pray and get my candles out and I turn on my lights,
and I have my church music on. And I seclude myself, and I've never really
been able to do that and really talk to God. Usually, I would just be
so tired laying in my bed, say, 'Oh God, thank you for everything, and
thank you for all the things I usually pray for.' I used to do that
.
I just wanted to say that I never used incorporated
God in my conversations with my friends. So I thought to say that God
really blessed me -- that my friends would look at me like 'what?' I went
home and I told my mom and dad the whole story about everything. We never
talk about that. This is something that I was blessed with- the gift of
just being able to spread it. I've never been able to spread the word
before. I wasn't embarrassed; I just thought that they wouldn't understand.
But the more I do it the more people are like 'you went on this retreat?
I want to go!'. I'm probably taking twenty people to church on Sunday
because they all want to go because I'm talking about it. I just thank
God for the ability to actually go out and thank him by telling people
about his works." Susan
